Local residents are being urged to be on their guard against cold callers after a 92-year-old woman in Kirriemuir was approached at the weekend.

The incident happened on Saturday. The male caller turned up at the woman’s address and claimed to be there to give her a quote for work on her roof, managing to gain entry to her home.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The male had entered the address and began quoting the elderly female large sums of money and tried to obtain a large deposit from her to complete work.

“Luckily no money exchanged hands.”

The man is described as being in his 30s, 5’ 8” tall, of skinny build with short brown hair, brown moustache and dark eyes. At the time he was wearing dark clothing.

The spokesman added that householders should be vigilant if cold callers turn up at their homes and anyone who knows or has seen the man should contact Police Scotland on 101 or talk to any Police officer.
