THERE will be no Prom at Glamis this year.

The event, due to take place on August 10, has been cancelled due to “increasing pressure in the current economic climate.”

With a number of major outdoor events in the Scottish calendar announcing postponements or cancellations last year or for 2013, the Trustees of Strathmore Estates have taken the difficult decision to cancel The Prom for 2013.

David Broadfoot, castle director, said: “In the face of a difficult economic climate and on the back of a 2012 season that was adversely effected by the poor weather we had, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel The Prom at Glamis in 2013.

“We are not alone in having to cancel our event, with a number of other events in the Scottish summer calendar succumbing either due to adverse weather or the difficult economic times we’re living in, but we took the decision as early as possible so as to not inconvenience those who have already bought tickets.”

Mr Broadfoot continued: “Though it is disappointing to have to cancel what has been a wonderful and previously well-attended event at Glamis, we will keep an open mind for future years and if the event becomes viable again we would consider reinstating it because we know it was much-enjoyed by those who have attended in previous years.”
