At the latest Kirriemuir Probus Club meeting, President Mike Visocchi introduced guest speaker Bob Stewart.
Bob is a past-president of the club and until recently president of the World Burns Federation, his year in that office being the subject of his talk.
Born and educated in Forfar, Bob served an agricultural and industrial apprenticeship, progressing to head of the engineering department at Barony College, Dumfries.
Having joined Dumfries Burns Club and later Cupar Burns Club, Bob also served in various posts in the World Burns Federation before his year as president.
He said the year was an extremely busy one, as he attended 77 events and functions, driving over 11,000 miles to act as an ambassador for the Federation at Burns Suppers, inter-club nights, schools competitions, giving orations at poetry festivals and the various Burns ceremonies held throughout the year.
He also attended a Burns conference in North America and summed up his year as being a demanding one with much hard work, but a great honour to represent the Federation at all these events before handing back the very impressive, and valuable, 100-year-old gold chain of office.
