The Scottish weather may try its best to put a dampener on outdoor events, but it failed on Saturday for DD8 Music’s Live in the Den in Kirriemuir.

Despite periods of torrential rain on Friday and showers on Saturday morning, the weather cleared to enable the afternoon free music festival to take place.

And the family event attracted between 300 and 400 people who turned out to enjoy performances from some of the best and best up-and-coming young bands in the area.

The afternoon began with some of the youngsters who use the facilities at DD8 which chairman Graham Galloway said was an impressive showcase of new talent, alongside established local favourites Restless Natives and Headroom.

He said: “We had the young ones playing for the first hour and it was great to see them up there and see how they’re coming on. We really do have some talented young musicians in Kirriemuir.

“Generally the bands were excellent and this year we also had a couple who had come up through DD8’s music groups and it’s great to see them getting up on stage and playing for the whole town.”

As well as the bands there was also a number of stalls, bouncy castles and a barbecue.

Graham added: “I thought there might have been a bigger turnout, but I think a lot of people thought it would be a washout, but in the end, after one shower, the weather was glorious.

“Everyone there seemed to have a good time, which is what it’s about. It’s meant to be for all ages and absolutely for families. I’ve children myself and it’s something they look forward to. It’s just a great day for everyone I think.”
