STAGE SET FOR ARMED FORCES PARADE IN FORFAR

ANGUS Council has finalised plans to celebrate Armed Forces Day with a parade in Forfar this Sunday.

The national event to mark the efforts of the armed forces and their members was first celebrated in Angus on Monday with a flag raising ceremony at The Cross, Forfar.

A parade and veterans badge presentation will be held on Sunday.

Taking part in the parade will be members of 45 Commando RM and HMS Montrose, with representatives and standards or colours from other organisations including regimental associations representing veterans from the Royal Marines, Royal Artillery and the Black Watch, plus all Angus Branches of the Royal British Legion Scotland. The parade will be led by The Pipes and Drums of The Angus and Dundee Battalion of The Army Cadet Force.

The parade musters at Chapelpark School from 1pm and will set off at 1.30 pm, proceeding via East High Street and Castle Street to Myre Road. The parade is due to arrive at The Myre Green at 1.45pm where the salute will be taken by the Vice Lieutenant of Angus Lord Dalhousie and Provost of Angus, Ruth Leslie Melville.

More than 20 veterans of The Land Army and Timber Corps, along with ex-service personnel from throughout the county, will be presented with their veterans' badges at approximately 3pm.

For details of the parade and badge presentation ceremony, contact Angus Council offices at 7 The Cross, Forfar, or by calling the council's ACCESSLine on 08452 777778.
