A PIPER from the ScottishPower Pipe Band attended a special St Andrew’s Day celebration at Tannadice Primary School after primary pupils entered a ScottishPower competition and won!

Tannadice Primary School won the ScottishPower art competition and a piper to help celebrate St Andrew’s Day in style

The competition, which was launched in September asked schoolchildren to submit artwork themed around the patron saint St Andrew and it attracted over 30 entries.

Pipe Major Chris Armstrong from the ScottishPower Pipe band attended in full highland dress to support the school’s St Andrew’s Day celebrations.

Chris said: “More and more young people are keen to learn the pipes and we hope to harness this enthusiasm and help future generations learn this traditional skill.

“We plan to make this St Andrew’s Day very special for a number of primary school children and look forward to joining in the celebrations at Tannadice Primary.”

The ScottishPower Pipe Band, (SPPB), is a grade one pipe band and it is sponsored by the energy company, ScottishPower. The band is considered to be one of the world’s leading grade one pipe bands and has featured as a regular prize-winner in all major competitions over the years.

Ann Loughrey who is the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at ScottishPower, said: “We are very proud of our Scottish heritage and wanted to play our part in helping young people across the country celebrate St Andrew’s Day. We hope that the children at Tannadice Primary will enjoy having a piper play at their school celebrations.”

A spokesperson from the school said: “What a wonderful way to honour and mark St. Andrew’s Day at Tannadice by winning a National Competition and enjoying ‘the skirl o’ the pipes and the swing o’ the kilt!”
