Scottish first as Forfar leads the way

Town website will put Forfar on the map.

Town website will put Forfar on the map.

Forfar is leading the way by tapping into on-line customers in a first for Scotland.

On Monday it became the first Scottish town to enjoy a full e-commerce enabled town website which will allow residents, locals, visitors and tourists alike to discover, browse, book and buy from retail and leisure businesses at www.visitforfar.com

The site is hosted on MyHigh.St, a business set up to support High Streets and independent retailers who want to go online to attract new revenue and new visitors. It has been championed by Lord Strathmore, British Independent Retailers Association, local retailers and Angus Council. It has been sponsored by Guild Homes (Tayside) Ltd, and joins a fast growing UK wide network of towns on the MyHigh.St service.

Every independent retailer can open, free of charge, an online store allowing shoppers to browse and buy online and to choose between Click & Collect and delivery to home.

Leisure businesses, tourist attractions and business services can add their profile to the site complete with images, video, addresses, google maps and telephone and email contact for just £8 per month.

Karen Strathmore, Managing Director of David Irons and Sons said: “Thanks to the generosity of local business and the support of MyHigh.St, Forfar can firmly put itself on the digital map and establish itself as a dynamic and forward looking town. A place to visit - and a place to do business in.”

Gavin Richardson, owner of The Canvas Art Gallery added: “This service goes beyond tourist information giving people a chance to explore the town in detail. It enables retailers to set up shop online and showcase their wares and businesses to build their own profile and generate enquiries.

“If we all get on board we can create an online destination for Forfar that we own, we promote to our customers in person and online and that will drive revenue into the local economy and footfall onto the High Street.”

Louis Agabani, founder of MyHigh.St added: “We visited Forfar to talk to the local businesses and loved what we saw. Giving the community the tools to show-off Forfar to the world, and to champion it in its region will help create a destination for investment and to protect a thriving and diverse High Street and the community it supports. And our thanks on behalf of the community to Guild Homes.”

Mark and Robin Guild, owners of Guild Homes (Tayside) Ltd. commented: “We are delighted to sponsor such a worthy initiative for local businesses in Forfar. My High St provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase the many benefits that both local businesses and Forfar have to offer.

“With a simple click, customers local, national and even international can discover Forfar, the quality of service and products it offers and even go on to make a purchase. We would encourage local businesses to register today and be part of what we hope will be a massive success story for Forfar and its local businesses.”
