ROOF TRUSS GRANT IS SWEET MUSIC FOR KIRRIE GROUP

FIVE years on from the launch of a monthly £250 award scheme to benefit local community groups and individuals, the Forfar Roof Truss Company Limited project is still going strong.

The roof truss firm, based at Orchardbank Business Park, initially agreed to run the scheme for a year, to mark the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the business.

And, such was its success, Alan Hampton of Roof Truss Company Limited agreed to allow it to continue - with countless organisations and individuals benefiting from a 250 windfall.

The latest award will be music to the ears of one voluntary community group based in Kirriemuir - DD8 Music.

Members popped along to the Forfar Roof Truss Company premises in Forfar in Thursday to receive the latest 250 cheque - which will help them meet their aim of promoting music and musicians in the area by providing an opportunity for them to rehearse, perform and record music in a safe environment.

The DD8 Music events focus on such things as bringing people together to enjoy live music, re-inforcing community spirit, allowing musicians to benefit from the experience of live performance, fund-raising to pay for equipment and any non-profit events, raising awareness and encouraging people to get involved.

Annual events include the Bon Scott Rock Weekend and an open air music festival in Kirriemuir Den each summer.

The group is currently continuing its fund-raising drive to further its aims and help meet the costs of a running a permanent meeting place in Kirriemuir, with discussions on-going with regard to suitable venues.
