RESULT WAIT OVER FOR LOCAL PUPILS
THE waiting for thousands of students will be over tomorrow (Thursday) when the SQA examination results are delivered to homes up and down the country.
Locally just over 1,100 pupils will receive their results after sitting exams at Forfar Academy, Webster's High School and Brechin High School.
In Forfar 233 pupils who sat exams in fourth year will be waiting along with 147 in fifth and 97 in sixth year, whilst in Kirriemuir 375 pupils have an anxious wait - 150 in fourth year, 123 in fifth year and 102 who sat exams in their sixth year.
In Brechin the postman will be a welcome sight for the 139 fourth year pupils who sat their Standard Grades, whilst 81 sat exams in their fifth year and 45 in sixth year.
However, for some the waiting was over today (Wednesday) after they opted to receive their results by electronic delivery via text and/ or email.
The local students are among the 165,000 young people in Scotland who will receive their results.
For those who don't get the results they had been hoping for, help is at hand in the form of a free call to the Skills Development Scotland Exam Results Helpline on 0808 100 8000.
The helpline will open on August 4 to offer information, advice and support to those young people who have signed up to receive their results by e-mail or text from the SQA that afternoon.
Skills Development Scotland's Chief Executive Damien Yeates said: "Our helpline will be live from 2 p.m. on August 4 to offer young people and their parents all the advice they need as soon as the results are sent. Most young people will get their results on August 5 and the helpline will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m."
Shouldn't panic
He added: "The message is that if people don't get the results they were hoping to get they shouldn't panic. They should call the helpline and speak to our advisers who can give the information, advice and assistance that they need.
"This can be a difficult time not only for students but for their parents too, especially in the current economic climate. Parents sometimes call on behalf of their sons and daughters as they can be too upset to make the call themselves. Making a call to the helpline is that important first step in finding out what their options are," said Danny.
Almost 80 advisers will be on hand to give the latest information on UCAS course vacancies at colleges and universities across the UK, clearing, advice about employment, training opportunities, exam re-sits and the Scottish Government's Step Forward Scotland 6.5m support package for summer leavers.
The Exam Results Helpline will run from 8 am to 8 pm on August 5 and 6, and from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekends until August 28.
