Repairs service for vulnerable in Angus is offered

Angus Care and Repair is offering clients a reduced rate repairs service for the next three months after securing donations from a number of local groups.

The business is offering clients aged 65 and over, or those of any age with disabilities, a three-month price promise of £20 per hour to conduct safety, security and essential small repairs within their homes.

Employees were particularly eager to offer this service in light of the recent increase in cold calling and bogus callers that have affected the Angus area.

Donations to the group have come from Forfar Inner Wheel, Arbroath Rotary and the recently dissolved Angus Age Concern alongside sponsorship from Angus Bio Fuels.

This money will now allow Angus Care and Repair to offer this reduced service.

Judith Leslie, company manager at Angus Care Repair, said: “Unfortunately it is often the more vulnerable individuals who are targeted by bogus callers with no guarantee of a quality job or competitive cost.

“Historically we also know that if small repairs are not carried out the repair can quickly become more significant and result in serious deterioration to the home or indeed a risk to the occupier. Tackling the small repairs immediately contributes greatly to enabling people to remain safe and secure in their own home and in their own community.

“We are extremely grateful to have received donations to enable us to run a reduced rate small repairs service for three months, effective immediately. During this period we will be hoping to demonstrate to potential funders the importance for our clients of having this service to rely on at a reasonable cost so we will be asking clients for feedback on their experiences.”
