RED CARPET TREATMENT AS CHARITY SHOP OPENS

SHOPPERS had their first chance to do some bargain hunting in the new Salvation Army Trading Company charity shop as it opened its doors at 7 Castle Street in Forfar last Thursday.

The shop was opened in a red carpet ceremony, after which a team of staff and volunteers welcomed a crowd of customers eager to pick up a few bargains from the store.

"We've been very busy getting the shop ready for a while now and the response from local residents has been fantastic," said shop manager Joanne Robertson.

"People have been regularly popping by, keen to see what's going on and how they can help. We've also had some very generous donations so we're absolutely thrilled.

"It's clear to see that The Salvation Army is very well supported in Forfar and we hope that, now we're open, the local community will enjoy shopping here as we've got some fabulous bargains on sale at very reasonable prices.

"Everything we sell has been donated by the public and, with vintage fashion still being very popular, we're expecting to be busy."

The shop will sell clothes, shoes and accessories, as well as toys, CDs, DVDs and bric-a-brac. With profits from the shop gift aided to The Salvation Army to help fund its valuable work throughout the UK, the team is confident shoppers will be tempted by the quality of the goods on offer, knowing that their money is going to a well-loved charity.

Homeless shelters, substance misuse centres and family tracing services are just some of the services The Salvation Army delivers.

Customers at the new shop's opening were also asked if they would consider taking

part in an inventive scheme to encourage the Forfar public to recycle their unwanted clothing with the aid of a re-usable bag.

The shop is encouraging would-be recyclers to invest in a striking red, black and white re:bag at a cost of just 99p.

The bag is brought back to the shop full of clothing or household goods and the owner is rewarded with a 2 voucher to spend in the shop. Anyone donating clothes in this way can use the bag as often as they want and there is no limit as to how many times they can benefit from the offer.

Joanne and the team look forward to welcoming more customers and volunteers to the new shop.

Joanne added: "We hope that this fantastic start continues and local people will

continue to support us by shopping, donating and thinking about whether they'd like

to become part of our team of volunteers."
