President Mike Visocchi welcomed another good turnout of members to Kirriemuir Probus Club’s latest meeting and introduced guest speaker Mark Caunt, a wildlife photographer from Auchmithie.
Mark has travelled widely in Britain and abroad searching for images of the natural world, particularly birds. His talk was of a visit to several locations in Spain in June, his presentation making clever use of Google Earth to show where the photographs were taken and the type of terrain encountered, ranging from dry arid areas west of Madrid to the high altitude of the Picos de Europa mountains in northern Spain.
Showing superb shots of golden and Spanish Imperial eagles, griffon vultures, peregrine falcons, plus many of smaller birds and also of brown bear and chamois etc, Mark explained how these close-up images were obtained, often involving the best part of a day in a hide to obtain fleeting moments of bird or animal behaviour, or in-flight action.
Mark was thanked by Malcolm McBeath. The next meeting of Kirriemuir Probus will be on Wednesday, May 21, when Stuart Scott will talk on ‘The Arbroath Smokie’.
