Police warning over home security after spate of sneak thefts in Kirrie
police in Kirriemuir are warning residents to be aware of sneak thieves after a number of thefts in the town centre.
Community liaison officer Constable Alan Bell warned all the incidents were a result of front doors being tried by the perpetrator, found to be insecure and entry was gained.
He warned: “If you live in a busy area or on a busy thoroughfare please ensure that you keep your doors secure to prevent any unwanted visitors.”
He added that, if you think your property is vulnerable and would wish to have a crime prevention survey carried out, then he and fellow community officer Pamela Colvin would be more than happy to pay you a visit and carry out a survey and offer some advice.

The cases reported in the last week were as follows:
Between 6.30 p.m. on January 18 and 8.30 a.m. on January 19, theft of purse and contents, house key and theft of car key which led to a silver coloured Skoda motor car being stolen in Grants Pend, Kirriemuir;
Theft of keys from house in Glebe Road, Kirriemuir, at about 7.05 p.m. on January 18.
Theft of wallet and contents and a car key from a house in Bank Street, Kirriemuir, at about 7.30 p.m. on January 18. These were later found by a member of the public.
Constable Bell also warned of the on-going cases of the theft of heating oil in outlying areas.
Two cases, both at Oliver Avenue, by Noranside occurred - the first between December 17 and January 12, and the second between November 28 and January 12.
Constable Bell said: “With every hike in fuel costs there is a likelihood that fuel thefts will occur.
“If you think your oil tank requires its security updated it might be an idea to speak to your fuel provider who may have simple gadgets to help you protect your fuel from thieves.”
Again Constable Alan Bell is more than happy to pop out and do a simple crime prevention survey to ensure your tank is secure.
Simple tasks you could do yourself for example could be planting prickly shrubs to hide your tank, the installation of a PIR floodlight to warn off would be thieves.

Kirie police officers are also investigating the theft of unattended plant machinery near to Mains of Balindarg Farm, by Kirriemuir, between 5 p.m. on January 15 and 6.30 a.m. on January 16.
They are also making enquiries into hare coursing near to Easter Denoon Farm, by Glamis at about 2.30 p.m. on January 14.
