Trip of a lifetime: Frieda (New York), Jim Richardson and Malcolm McBeath.

Kirriemuir Probus president Duncan Brown welcomed members and guest speaker Malcolm McBeath to their most recent meeting.

Malcolm’s talk ‘Clova to Jura’ told of how an image of autumn birches reflected in a Glen Clova loch, taken with the Kirrie calendar in mind, had been entered in a VisitScotland/Jura Whisky photography competition for ‘Your favourite place’.

The image was rated one of the three winners from a worldwide entry, mostly of exotic locations, the other two lucky photographers being from New York and Italy.

The prize was an all expenses paid week for two, courtesy of Whyte & Mackay, on the famously remote island of Jura, with hire cars and trips arranged, National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson in attendance for masterclasses and advice, plus an Olympus camera for each.

Mike Visocchi gave the vote of thanks and in doing so also noted the importance of always having a camera to hand.

President Duncan reminded members of the next meeting on Wednesday, November 21, when the speaker will be Richard Stiff, Angus Council’s chief Executive.
