Packed line-up for annual event

while the Scottish Football League season is still in full swing, Forfar Athletic are already turning their attentions to their biggest off-field event of the year,

The annual Sportsman’s Dinner is always a highlight in a packed calendar of events and is due to take place at the Reid Hall on Friday, May 17, 2013.

This will be the 18th Sportsman’s Dinner that the club has run since the inaugural event back in 1996 when former Scotland Rugby captain David Sole was the first ever speaker.

The club is delighted to have put together what they hope will be an entertaining line-up for next May’s event with all three speakers and entertainers making their first appearance at the event.

Fred Eyre, a legend as far as after dinner speaking is concerned, will be travelling up from the Manchester area for the evening.

Fred, now in his late 60s, was a youth team player with Manchester City before going on to play and coach at a host of lower and non-league clubs. He subsequently became a successful businessman in his own right, a sports pundit on radio and an author. In fact, one of his books, ‘Kicked into Touch’, has sold over a million copies.

Joining Fred on the bill will be Phil Differ a well known West of Scotland based script writer for many television and radio shows and most notably a former producer/director of BBC Scotland’s Only an Excuse. He has also presented alongside Stuart Cosgrove on ‘Off the Ball’ and in recent years has become an accomplished after dinner entertainer.

Last but not least, Paul Reid, the hilarious sporting impressionist will complete the bill.

Paul is Carnoustie-based and works by day with Dundee United’s commercial department but he is now renowned as an entertainer throughout the country and has in recent times appeared on Sky’s ‘Soccer AM’ and on ‘Only and Excuse’ to name but two.

It should be yet another night to remember and those on the club’s mailing list for the event will be receiving further detail early in the New Year.

Anyone who would like to be added to that list should contact david.mcgregor@forfaratheltic.co.uk or phone 07871165689.
