MUSIC BUFFS SET TO TEST KNOWLEDGE AT QUIZ FINAL

A team of music buffs from Forfar are hoping to hit the right notes next Wednesday evening when they compete in the final of a new music quiz for 16 to 24-year-olds.

Bauer Media and the Scottish Qualifications Authority has announced details of the Grand Final of the HN Challenge which has taken Scotland by storm.

Among the teams taking part will be the Forfar Four - comprising team captain Claire McLaren, Leah Gow, Gillian Maitland and Ewan Phillip - who won the Tayside regional heat, beating a Dundee team into second place.

Over the past four weeks regional heats have taken place in seven locations, including Dundee.

The winners and runners-up from all heats will now compete in the final which takes place on Wednesday, November 25 at the Albert Halls, Stirling.

The HN Challenge was created by the Scottish Qualifications Authority in partnership with Bauer Media to promote Higher National Certificates and Diplomas and to encourage young people to check out the huge variety and scope of HN courses available at their local colleges.

HN Qualifications provide young people with the practical know-how to find good jobs and are, in every way, "Qualifications for the Real World".

The Grand Final event will consist of 10 challenging rounds of music and general knowledge questions to find the HN Challenge Champions of 2009 and present them with the star prize – a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Europe to catch five great gigs at five legendary venues over five whistle-stop days.

There will also be a live music element to the night including a very special set from Danish chart-toppers Alphabeat.
