The local community turned out in force to run their way round the Angus Rotary Marafun course on Sunday - raising thousands of pounds for charity.
The competitors were welcomed by and received their winners’ medals from Forfar’s own Olympic curling star Greg Drummond who started off the children’s race and the family race shortly after noon, while Angus Provost Helen Oswald started the Marafun at 1 p.m.
The Marafun winners were the Forfar Road Runners’ team of Stephen Connor, Brian Niblock, David Webster, Brian Bonnyman and Craig Stewart in a time of two hours 51 minutes 23 seconds. The mixed race was won by Coull Runners comprising Graham Farquharson, Graham Bushnell, Christie Hardwick, Peter Herron and Sean Hardwick in 3.09.20.
The Ladies’ race was won by the Forfar Road Runners’ Elizabeth McInally, Karen Campbell, Michelle Nicholl, Rachael Young and Pamela Irving in 3.28.10 while the half marathon was won by the Strathmore Stamina’s Jill Westwood, Caroline Kerr, Charlotte Coyle, Neil MacGregor and Stuart O’Brien. The Strathmore Tiger Sharks comprising Jock Fullerton, Euan Duguid Jack Williams and Jim Cowan won the Kids’ mini-mile race.
Marafun convener Dave Valentine praised all the runners and supporters who had turned out and who helped make the event such a success.
