FINALISTS: A group of Forfar Academys S2 pupils are through to the national finals of the GO4SET awards which will take place in June.

A TEAM of Forfar Academy pupils, working with Ritchie’s Engineering, have picked up a prestigious award at the regional Go for Science and Technology Awards (GO4SET) at Dundee University.

The S2 pupils were among a group of 20 teams competing from school’s all over Angus and Dundee.

The team of six each had real life roles to play in the production of a technical report and model of their solution, based on investigating energy savings in school buildings.

For their project, the team concentrated on heat loss in large areas and made a temperature map of the school using an iPad controlled quadropter and a thermal imaging ‘app’ on an iPhone.

Their report, presentation and display were highly recommended and were awarded the best team award based on their innovative and creative approach, picking up a certificate and cheque for £150.

The team go forward to represent Angus, along with Webster’s High school, at the national finals to be held at the National science centre in Glasgow in June.
