Let’s get Forfar blooming again

GARDENING enthusiasts in Forfar are being encouraged to come forward to nurture their talents to bring a little bit of colour to the town centre.

Angus councillor Lynne Devine has revealed exciting plans for a community project which could see the town bedecked with hanging baskets - with plants sourced and maintained locally.

Speaking at last month’s meeting of Forfar Community Council, Councillor Devine reminded members that one of the cuts made by the council in its recent budget was hanging baskets - a one-time popular feature.

However, she revealed she was hoping to galvanise the Forfar public into action to put a team together to work out the logistics for planting and watering the baskets.

She told the meeting: “Other towns, including Monifieth and Blairgowrie, have similar schemes. I have spoken to members of the Forfar and District Garden Club and they are willing to be part of a community group.”

Eleanor Gledhill of the club told the Dispatch and Herald: “The garden club is more than willing to help with expertise. We’re not a rich club and don’t have the funds to be able to buy the supplies but will be happy to teach a team of volunteers how it should be done. Anyone interested should contact Lynne who’s putting together a group.

“It’s a good idea to brighten up the town as it’s essential to make the town look nice.”
