GET YOUR SKATES ON FOR PARK OPENING

AFTER ten long years of work and perseverance the official opening of Forfar Skatepark will take place on Saturday, March 6 at 12 noon.

There will be bands playing between 12 noon and 3 pm and competitions are organised for novice and intermediate skaters, skateboarders and BMX bikers with prizes for first, second and third in each category (competitors must wear helmets and pads).

Food and drink will be available on site and everyone is welcome.

A spokesperson for the Forfar Wheeled Sports Association said: "Young people in Forfar have been working towards this skatepark for 10 years, overcoming so many funding setbacks on the way that they thought this day would never come. So there's a great deal of excitement about this opening.

"It's hoped that new folk, both young people and adults, will take up these exciting sports in the future. Some of the more experienced skaters will be available on the day and in future to give hints and tips on learning a variety of moves and tricks."

Association members have also been working closely with an artist with the view to having a graffiti wall as part of a feature of the new facility.
