Flavour to feature at Tartan Day festival

Throughout the Tartan Day Scotland Festival 2013, local restaurants, hotels and coffee shops will be offering special Tartan Day Menus, featuring traditional Scottish dishes made from the very best of local produce.

“The Tartan Day Scotland Festival, which runs from March 29 until April 7, celebrates the very best of Scotland,” said Councillor Mairi Evans, Angus Council’s economic development spokesperson. “So it’s very fitting that the Festival will highlight the local, fresh, high-quality ingredients that play such a vital part in ensuring eating in Angus is such a highly-enjoyable experience.

“The Taste of Angus Festival in September showcases our local food and drink and it’s wonderful that, thanks to the Tartan Day Scotland Festival, Angus businesses have been provided with another high-profile opportunity to highlight their commitment to local produce.”

Eateries across Angus will be offering customers the chance to enjoy the flavours of Angus with a Tartan Day Menu, such as the Victorian Kitchen Restaurant at Glamis Castle and the Drovers Inn, Memus, near Kirriemuir.

“The Drovers Inn specialises in modern Scottish cuisine and quality, locally sourced, seasonal produce,” said Eden Sinclair, chef at the Drovers. “During the Tartan Day Scotland Festival, we’ll be enticing our diners to sample the very best of the Angus larder with a selection of Tartan Day daily specials.”

Other participating eating places include Darlings Coffee Shop in Arbroath, which will feature Cullen Skink and a daily Arbroath Smokie dish on its Tartan Day Menu, and The Pear Tree Restaurant in Auchterhouse, which will be offering East Coast smoked haddock fishcakes, chicken with skirlie stuffing and clootie dumpling.
