Members of the 2nd Kirriemuir Guides have had their fundraising efforts for a trip to Austria supported by a raft of famous names.
Prime Minister Theresa May; Mrs Georgiana Osborne, Lord Lieutenant of Angus; celebrity chefs Lesley Waters and Gino D’Acampo and Clare Balding, presenter, writer and broadcaster, have all submitted recipes for a cook book which will be on sale before Christmas.
Eight Guides and their leaders - Claire Blackwell and Jennifer Mann - will spend 11 days in Lechtal, a province of Tyrol, next summer and they are busy raising funds to help send them on their way.
Retired Guide Unit Leader Moira Ireland said: “The Guides and leaders are going to Lechtal, in the north west of Austria close to the German border, from June 30 until July 10 with a day visit to Disneyland Paris on the way home. The girls may have the opportunity to go rafting, canyoning, do a two day mountain hike, roller blading, rock climbing and a dry toboggan run.
“This is the first time guides from Kirriemuir have gone abroad without going through a selection process. They will be going with girls from 11th Hamilton Guides and 3rd District Rangers, Carluke Guides and Rangers and Stonehouse Guides.” To help fundraise for the trip they are holding an afternoon of shopping in the Guide Hall, Kirrie on Sunday (October 23) from 2pm to 4pm.
There are a number of stalls, from Partylite and Body Shop to Just for you Jewellery and Osbourne books, to name but a few. Entry is £2 which will include a cup of tea/coffee and a cake and there will be a raffle. Everyone is welcome to go along and all proceeds will go to the girls’ Austrian trip.
The Guides are also putting together the cook book with recipes from celebrities, parents and friends, as well as recipes from the Guides’ Scottish Chief and Deputy Scottish Chief Commissioners. Moira continued: “We have also been given recipes from Kate Moss, Susan Hampshire and Carol Vorderman and a few hotels in Kirrie.”
The Prime Minister has supplied a recipe for “Chocolate Oat Cake”; Mrs Georgiana Osborne has submitted a recipe for Anzac Biscuits and a pavlova; Clare Balding’s recipe is for a fruit crumble and Kate Moss has supplied a recipe for the “perfect roast chicken”.
Carol Vorderman sent the Guides a signed photograph of herself along with her recipe for chestnut and vegetable burgers, and Kate Moss has placed an order for the book which is due to be printed this week. Recipes have also been received from Our Chalet (Switzerland), Pax Lodge (London), Sangam (India) which are all Our World Centres in Guiding.
