STAFF AND pupils from Forfar Academy’s drama department made a special trip to the Forfar Roof Truss Company on Friday to collect the monthly £250 sponsorship cheque.

The department’s application for December was successful, much to the delight of drama teacher Mr Paul Harrison who described the windfall as “fantastic news”.

The department is involved with a number of projects in the school, the most recent being their entry into this year’s Scottish Community Drama Association One Act Play festival at the Webster Memorial Theatre in Arbroath next month.

Mr Harrison said: “This is a prestigious event which operates on a round by round basis culminating in a national final. We are entering a play which has been written and performed by a group of S5 and S6 pupils. Their work is of a very high standard and we have real hopes for this competition.

“The money will be primarily used to buy timber required for our set which will also be used afterwards in the every day teaching in the drama department.”

Mr Harrison, along with fellow drama teacher Pauline Gibb, has introduced a number of new projects to the department over the last two years.

Pupils reached the Scottish finals of The Rock Challenge dance show and in 2012 had the winning entry in the annual RespectMe Anti-bullying campaign’s annual competition.

Pupils are also working hard on the We-CTV competition run by the Scottish Youth Parliament, for which they are currently placed in Scotland’s top 10 and are working hard to win this.
