D-DAY FOR KIRRIE SUPERMARKET PLANS

DECISION day for a trio of Kirriemuir supermarket proposals is fast approaching.

It has been revealed that the three proposals will come under the microscope of local authority planners on Monday, February 22.

Muirhead/MacDonald Estates are keen to create a supermarket on ground to the south of the A926 Forfar Road, Guild Homes (Tayside) Limited have a supermarket proposal for a site at Pathhead Farm and the third proposal tabled by CWP/J. & D. Wilkie is for the Gairie Works site close to the town centre.

At last week's meeting of Kirriemuir Community Council, members were informed that pre-determination hearings on all three proposals will get underway from 6 pm on February 22, the venue being Webster's High School in Kirriemuir.

The early start is to allow for as much of the business as possible to be conducted on the same evening, ahead of a special meeting of the development standards committee to debate the proposals.

The evening of Wednesday, February 24 has been set aside for a continuation of the debate, should the Monday evening's proceedings look like dragging on into the early hours.

Community councillors were also informed that both the pre-determination hearings and the special meeting of the development standards committee will be open to members of the public.

The decision to consider all three proposals at the one meeting was made in the autumn of last year.

Speaking at a meeting of Angus development standards committee, Angus director of infrastructure services Eric Lowson said the three applications raised similar issues in relation to the provision of a supermarket in Kirriemuir.

"As a result, it is considered appropriate to consider all three supermarket applications together."
