At a ‘behind closed doors’ meeting of Angus Council yesterday (Tuesday), elected members backed plans for the sale of a prominent Forfar town centre site to national pub chain JD Wetherspoon.
At the meeting, which was held as the ‘Dispatch and Herald’ went to press, members heard plans to sell off the council offices at 5 to 7 The Cross.
The building currently houses the offices of the Angus Provost and the elected members.
Following the meeting a spokesperson for Angus Council said: “At a special council meeting of Angus Council elected members agreed to proceed with negotiations with JD Wetherspoons for the purchase of 5 – 7 The Cross, Forfar.
“The sale of the building will be subject to planning permission and licensing.”
Despite being contacted, no-one from Wetherspoons was available for comment today.
