The chairman of the Scottish Network for Arthritis in Children has praised the incredible effort of 22-year-old Laura Davidson from Forfar who completed a personal triathlon on Saturday.

Laura, who was recently diagnosed with arthritis, ran one mile from her home in Glenclova Terrace to Forfar Swimming Pool in just under 11 minutes; swam two miles (144 lengths) in one hour two minutes and cycled with her dad Colin the 39 miles to Glen Clova and home in three hours 30 minutes.

Her efforts raised £1,068.50 which will be further boosted by Gift Aid.

Commenting on Laura’s magnificent achievement Tracy Rendall, chairman and trustee of the charity, said: “It was very difficult for Laura to do this challenge with her condition. I know she has been training for months and I am overwhelmed with what she has done. She is amazing. The fact she has raised all that money is just phenomenal and it will be very well used. It will go a long way. We have no overheads as we have no staff or premises. SNAC is run by volunteers who are parents of children who have muscular skeletal conditions. Every penny Laura has raised will go to the children and their families. We are very grateful to her and I am overwhelmed by what she has achieved.”

Tracy explained two soft play day sessions have been organised for children and the money will also be used for an information and networking day for parents where they can meet with specialists in the field.

She added; “It is really lovely to see a young woman who has grown up with this condition give something back to children.”

Laura has said a huge thank you to everyone who supported her and sponsored her efforts.
