Local police officers have been issued with new camera equipment to help in the continuing fight against domestic violence.

The cameras, which will be carried by front line officers, have been provided by Asda in Forfar and were handed over this week to area commander Chief Inspector Gordon Milne.

They have been provided through the supermarket’s Community Life Initiative and will be used as an additional resource, primarily in potential prosecutions dealing with domestic violence.

Chief Inspector Milne, said: “We are grateful to Asda for providing this equipment to assist Police Scotland in keeping people safe within the Angus area. Violence can damage and destroy lives and have a profound detrimental impact on our communities.

“There is no excuse or reason for domestic violence and Police Scotland will never tolerate such behaviour. I would encourage any victim of domestic violence to come forward and report all incidents.”

Robert Hallyburton, Asda’s general store manager, said the company was keen to back Police Scotland’s request for help.

He said: “We are really keen that every Asda store plays an active role in the community that our customers and colleagues come from. When Andrea Logan, our community life champion, and I received the request for the cameras, we both felt it was the right thing to do and were happy to support Police Scotland with this donation.”

Asda’s Community Life initiative was started in 2012 so staff could take an active role in the life of their local community. Each store has a Community Life Champion to work one day a week with community groups and local organisations.

Anyone with information or requiring information or advice should contact their local Community Police Officer. Information that may be useful to the Police should be reported on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
