Calls for council to step up clearing
BROKEN IN TWO PLACES: Karen Thomson will be out of action for some time after falling down snow-covered steps at Grampian Park.
A FORFAR woman has called for better treatments of public footpaths after suffering a horrific leg injury.
Karen Thomson who lives near Grampian Park, Forfar, fell down a set of untreated snow-covered steps two weeks ago and broke both her tibia and fibula.
Karen’s sister Nicki Thomson said: “Nobody from the council had even made an attempt to clear the pathways or the steps.
“I think that it’s absolutely ridiculous especially in this area when so many older people live here.
“There was a grit bin at the shops next to Grampian Park but that was removed a couple of years ago so it’s difficult for residents to even try and clear this area themselves.
“But the whole scheme never gets touched by the council.
She added: “Karen now has a metal scaffold on her leg and will have to have plates and pins put in.”
And there are fears that the injury could have longer term implications for Karen on top of the 12 weeks of having to wear the scaffolding.
Nicki said: “Karen worked at Glamis Castle last season but it’s closed for the winter just now.
“If she gets offered back when it reopens then she might not be able to do it with an injury like this.
“She has applied for a couple of jobs in the meantime but if she does hear back she might not be able to take them
“Karen is basically housebound just now, it’s not the greatest situation.”
A spokesperson for Angus Council said: “We are aware of the incident and are currently investigating the circumstances.”
