Aluminium stolen from factory

police in Kirriemuir are appealing for information regarding thefts which have taken place in the area.

Sometime between December 20, 2012, and January 9, 2013, 25 aluminium rolls, each five metres long, were stolen from J & D Wilkie, Marywell Brae.

Between 7.45 and 11.30 a.m. on January 12, an unattended trailer was stolen from Broomfield Road, Tannadice.

A number of people have been identified for incidents which have occurred in the town recently.

These include petty assault in Prosen Road, Kirriemuir, on January 10 - one person cautioned and charged; reckless conduct - throwing stones at a moving bus on January 1 - juvenile offender identified; petty assault in Elm Street, Kirriemuir - one person warned.

Meanwhile, Police in Forfar are warning residents not to be taken in by the latest telephone scam.

Officers report several unfortunate incidents recently where persons have been caught out by fraudsters contacting them by telephone and offering them unrealistic methods of obtaining cash payments (such as PPI), asking the person to send a money transfer via Western Union or one of the other money transfer systems to allow the transaction to take place.

Western Union advise: never send money to a stranger using a money transfer service; beware of deals or opportunities that seem too good to be true; don’t use money transfer services to pay for things like online auction purchases; never send money to pay for taxes or fees on foreign lottery winnings; never send a money transfer, in the name of a friend or relative, with the intention of changing the name to someone you have not met personally; never send a money transfer, in the name of a friend or relative, in order to delay payment of the transaction to someone you have not met personally.

Anyone wishing to speak to a police officer about any of the above can contact 0300 111 2222.
