Fans were shaking the foundations of Kirrie Town Hall on Saturday night as they gathered to celebrate the 70th birthday of the late AC/DC frontman Bon Scott.

Organised by DD8 Music, the group behind the successful campaign to erect the statue of Bon Scott in Kirriemuir, the birthday party was the latest event to celebrate the life and works of the legendary rocker.

Around 200 fans had come from all over Angus and as far afield as Sweden for the event with music provided by local groups Restless Natives and Tusk, as well as Yorkshire band Powerage.

It was a great night according to Graham Galloway of DD8 Music who was keen to celebrate the life and works of Bon Scott, who would have turned 70 at the weekend had he not died in 1980.

Graham said: “We thought it would be appropriate to celebrate it by having a wee party! It was a decent turnout, we had a couple of hundred folk in and it seemed as though they all had a good time.

“It was just great to have people coming back to Kirrie and to celebrate Bon. We had people coming over from Sweden for the event. It’s fantastic for the town, we’ve got people coming here year round to visit and to remember Bon.”
