PLANNING is now under way for the Cancer Research UK Relay for Life Kirriemuir 2013.
Less than two years since hundreds of people from in and around Kirriemuir raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK’s ground-breaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, those behind the highly successful community event are now preparing for next year’s event.
Keith Hopkins, volunteer chair, Relay For Life Kirriemuir committee, said: “As well as raising vital funds to help beat cancer, Relay For Life is a fabulous community event.
“Teams from across the town and around Angus come together to raise funds, highlight cancer awareness, walk round a track for a 24-hour period and, of course, remember those who have lost their lives to cancer – and celebrate those who have won, or are winning, their fight.”
Cancer Research UK Relay For Life Kirriemuir will be held over the weekend of August 10/11 at the same location as 2011 – Kirriemuir Show Field.
Keith explained that, as part of the initial planning, an information meeting for team captains and potential team captains will be held at The Thrums, Kirriemuir, at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27.
He continued: “This is a chance for teams who have previously participated to let us know they’re keen to be involved and for those who have never taken part in this overnight fund-raising festival to find out more.
“They will be most welcome,” continued Keith, who added that Relay For Life requires as many teams as possible of between eight to 15 people - of all ages and levels of fitness.
“The meeting on November 27 will also be an opportunity for the committee to discuss plans for next year’s Relay For Life Kirriemuir, both on and off the track, and for those who hope to participate to contribute to these plans.
All suggestions will be gratefully received about how we can make the fourth Cancer Research UK Relay For Life Kirriemuir bigger and better than ever!”
