Laura’s Big Fun Day postponed

THE WEATHER has taken its toll on the Laura’s Big Fun Day, which was due to be held this Saturday at Murton Farm on the outskirts of Forfar.

The recent constant snow falls and sub-zero temperatures have resulted in the postponement of the major fund-raising event, and it has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 12.

Mr Euan Gow, principal teacher of pupil care and support at Forfar Academy, contacted the Dispatch and Herald in an attempt to let the local community know of the new date.

He said: “I’m afraid that the weather is having an adverse effect on the day and I’ve been in discussion with Murton. They feel that it’s not going to be safe to go ahead with the day as planned on March 30 as the ground will be waterlogged, probably still frozen and definitely unsafe.

“It’s been decided to reschedule for Sunday, May 12, with all the other arrangements remaining the same. Hopefully it will have turned into summer by then!”

Laura’s Big Fun Day will be held in memory of Forfar Academy pupil Laura Forbes, who tragically lost her battle against cancer earlier this year.

Her death shocked the school and wider community and this year’s fun day promises to be a real community event.

This year’s event will allow pupils and staff at Forfar Academy, as well as Forfar’s primary schools, to join together to raise money for charity.

There will be a 10k “Race for Laura” around the nature trail at Murton, and the main part of the day will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There are a whole variety of events lined up for the rescheduled date, with all money raised going to the Angus Riding for the Disabled, Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, Trussel Trust and Calum’s Cabin.

The last charity is a respite cabin on Bute where Laura and her family spent a week last November.

Full details of the May 12 event will appear nearer the time.
