Local members of Forfar Slimming World joined forces with their Montrose counterparts recently to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The contingent took part in the charity’s Race for Life in Camperdown Park, Dundee and raised more than £1,300 with donations still being contributed.

Most of the members had not participated in the Race for Life before but the majority of people have been touched by cancer one way or another, so they were keen to do their part for the fund-raising campaign.

The Race for Life invited ladies to tkae part in a 5k or 10k walk or run to raise money to help fund research into the disease.

Held annually, there were around 300 Race for Life events organised across the UK this year.

Carmen Gladsby, who runs the Forfar Slimming World group, said: “We will, towards the end of July, be doing our own Slimming World does Race for Life, and are hoping that we have inspired more of our members to join us with that to raise even more cash for a great cause.

The local group meets in St John’s Church Hall, Green Street, Forfar every Monday at 6.30 p.m. and new members are welcome.
