The former chairman of the initial Lippen Care Appeal Committee which instigated fund-raising for the Strathmore Hospice has come up with a novel way of continuing to support the local charity.
Mr Michael Hill, O.B.E., a former chairman of the charity’s trustees, has drawn on his love of nature and conservation and has spent almost two years gathering up pine cones and branches from his garden grounds.
Although no trees have been cut down, he has pruned lower branches and has meticulously cut them to size for easy storage.
He said: “I thought I had this wonderful resource which I could utilise to benefit Lippen Care.”
Visiting Mr Hill on Monday, John Seaton, Lippen Care secretary said: “Michael was one of the original founders of Lippen Care and he is still a strong supporter of it.”
The charity hopes members of the public will be interested in purchasing the small logs, branches and kindling, which make suitable firewood, for an appropriate donation.
Anyone interested is asked to contact the Lippen Care office in the first instance, telephone 475 256, when arrangements for collections can be made.
