Kirriemuir supports the Olympic Games

When the 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony takes place in London on July 27 the residents of Kirriemuir will be able to watch the live show and join in the celebrations in style.

This is the first of two free events and will be held in Martin Park, Kirriemuir, from 6pm to 11.30pm and will include live screening of the Opening Ceremony on a 120 sq ft TV screen and the lighting of Kirriemuir’s very own Olympic flame using an original Olympic torch.

There will be a free BBQ, performances from Sonnet 65 and We Are the Support Act, Kirriemuir pipe band, a skateboarding display, sport tasters and much more.

The second event will be a Free Family Fun Day to be held at Websters’ Playing Fields and Sports Centre, Kirriemuir from 10am to 4pm and marks the end of the 2012 Olympic Games on August 11.

There will be the football freestyler, Al Johnson, who will be showing his skills and holding masterclasses.

The Playing Field will be full of activities such as a climbing wall, bungee run, sumo suits, mobile Sk8 park, water slide, bouncy castle, zumba, family games, face painting, children’s sports and much much more, all free of charge!

Community events like these are taking part all over the UK, organised by local churches under the banner of More Than Gold, an initiative set up by all the main church denominations.

The events in Kirriemuir are partly sponsored by Angus Council.
