One hundred years ago the reality of the First World War would slowly be sinking in to the hearts and minds of the British people.
In Kirriemuir, like all other communities, families would be beginning to realise that their sons, brothers and husbands were not away for a few weeks in France on a great adventure.
Messages of injury, illness and death would be starting to come back from the battle fields.
It is impossible to imagine what the First World War must have been like for those who fought in it and for those who waited at home for news. But, we must not forget that it happened.
As part of the community’s remembering the local churches have organised a concert in Kirriemuir Old Parish Church on Friday, June 19, at 7.30pm.
The concert will be led by Perthshire Brass and feature the music and some of the images of both the First World War and the Second World War as well as the years in between.
All proceeds will go to Poppy Scotland and it is hoped that the whole community will support the concert.
Tickets are now on sale at £7.50 from the office of the Glens and Kirriemuir Old (01575 573724 or Anne@gkopc.co.uk).
