A KIRRIEMUIR singer has been nominated for Scots Singer of the Year in the MG Scots Trad Awards.
Christine Kydd is in the running for the Citty Finlayson Award.
The Citty Finlayson Award commemorates Citty, a great supporter of Scottish culture, and a wonderful character and presence at all the Festivals, including those run by the TMSA (Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland).
The aim of the awards is to highlight Scotland’s traditional music in all its forms and to create a high profile opportunity which will bring the music and the industry into the spotlight of media and public attention.
Christine toured and recorded extensively with Janet Russell and recently recorded a CD entitled ‘Lift’, as part of duo Sinsheen with Barbara Dymock.
Her contribution to community choirs and schools in Scotland is notable as is her touring in Europe, Russia, Canada and America.
Christine’s most recent recording received many plaudits including this from Ian McCalman of folk group, The McCalmans.
He said: “Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the ‘Scots in the Spanish Civil War’ Greentrax album is Christine Kydd’s beautifully crafted version of ‘Si Me Quieres Escribir’.”
