A sixth year Forfar Academy pupil began a major fundraising drive on Saturday to help fund a year’s teaching with the Project Trust.
Kieran Dear (16), a member of the 2nd Forfar Boys’ Brigade Company, has secured a one year teaching post with the educational charity.
He will head off to teach mathematics and science to secondary school pupils in Guyana next August.
He said: “We had a talk at the school from the Project Trust and I decided I would apply and was accepted.
“I have to raise £6200 for the trip, which is reasonable, and started off with the coffee morning.
Kieran, a house captain at Forfar Academy, was presented with his B.B. Queen’s Badge earlier this year. He is now helping with the youngest section in the Forfar company this session.
The coffee morning on Saturday in the B.B. Hall was a roaring success, raising £700.
Kieran said: “I cannot thank enough all my helpers and all who attended the coffee morning.
“You all helped greatly to raise £700 towards my trip to Guyana.”
