THERE was a £300 boost to a local parish fund that helps youngsters through their education last Friday.
The memorial bench for jockey Jan Wilson, which sits in a quiet garden area to the rear of Rescobie Church, overlooking Rescobie Loch, was the venue for the presentation of a £300 cheque to Aberlemno, Guthrie and Rescobie parish by Drew and Margaret Wilson.
The farming couple dipped into the Jockey Jan Wilson Memorial Fund to boost the coffers of a small fund which gives grants to help youngsters from the area who are going to university, nursing or other forms of further education.
Accepting the donation, the Rev. Brian Ramsay, parish minister, said it would help with the purchase of books or other equipment.
“The fund was very small and, with rising costs, we soon found ourselves unable to make any worthwhile grants.
“We are now hoping to build this fund up again and, with this generous donation from the Jockey Jan Wilson Memorial Fund, we have made a good start.
“Just as Jan left her home area and made us proud with all that she achieved so we hope to be able to help other youngsters as they make their way in the world.”
