MAKING contact with the Forfar Dispatch and Kirriemuir Herald this past week was a woman from Arizona in the USA.
Marie Thompson Alkire, who hails from the city of Mesa, is keen to glean some information on a family member who died in tragic circumstances away back in 1874.
“My great, great grandfather David Lindsay (born May 22, 1832, married in 1858 and died on September 7, 1874) was a resident of Forfar,” explains Marie in a letter.
“He was killed when his horses spooked and the load of logs he was hauling fell on him.
“We have no picture of him, nor do we have any information on his parents.
“David married my great, great grandmother, Elizabeth Wyllie Lindsay in 1858.
“They had eight children, which she raised alone after his death.
“Elizabeth brought her family to the United States in the S. S. Ancoria in August 1882, then moved on to Dover, Kansas by rail-road.
“There she purchased farm land near her sister and brother-in-law, who came to Kansas by way of Canada.”
Marie appreciates that it is a long time ago, but if any keen historian can provide her with any information on David Lindsay she would like to hear from them.
She can be contacted via e-mail – email@example.com
“Readers will be pleased to know that memories of Scotland have always been strong in our family and we are proud to be Lindsays” she concludes.
