Patients go back to school to name centre

Forfar’s newest medical practic will be called Chapelpark Healthcare Centre when it opens later this year.

The new practice, which will replace the Academy Medical Centre and Ravenswood Surgery, is named after the old primary school which is opposite the site.

Its new name was chosen from a list of suggestions sent in by the public.

Dr Andrew Thomson said: “We were inundated with suggestions and gave our Public Participant Group the unenviable task of short listing two from all the great ideas we received. They shortlisted Chapelpark and The Steeple.

“Patients then voted in large numbers for their preferred name and, once the votes were counted, Chapelpark came out as the clear winner.”

The next stage towards the two practices merging will be to speak to registered patients about the six small practice teams that will deliver healthcare.

Patients will deal with the same team time they contact the surgery and receive improved continuity of and access to care when they need it.

Patients are asked to record their preferred team on an online survey which can be accessed at Patients who do not have computer access should contact the practices for further information.
