THE CHARITY MS Therapy Centre (Tayside) provides invaluable help for people with the ilness in Angus, Dundee and beyond.
Ishbel Weir, Greenbank B & B, Montrose, has MS, and says it took her 20 years to gain access to hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which the therapy centre provides.
Continuous funding is essential to allow the Centre in Peddie Street, Dundee, to make its services available to everyone who gains benefit from them.
In gratitude for the relief from pain she has received, Ishbel has set about organising two major events, a charity golf AM-AM on Friday, June 1, and a midsummer night masquerade ball on Saturday, June 23 in the Links Hotel, Montrose.
With the assistance of Montrose Mercantile Golf Club, the AM-AM will allow participants to play on an Open qualifying course, in its 450th anniversary year.
It will be an 18-hole tournament with each team comprising four amateurs, same or mixed gender.
The £200 entry fee includes coffee and bacon roll, a meal after the round and a formal prize-giving. All of the £200 will be given to the MS Therapy Centre (Tayside) Ltd. Entries close on April 12
The midsummer ball in the Links Hotel on June 23 will run from 7pm to 1am.
Music will be by the Declaration Band - a six-piece group who play blues, soul and rock ‘n’ roll. There is also surprise entertainment.
All proceeds from an auction and raffle during the evening will go to charity.
Tickets cost £20 per person.
The Links Hotel has offered a discounted rate for two people sharing a room on a B & B basis, should anyone wish to stay over.
It is hoped that people will embrace the midsummer night masquerade theme and dress accordingly.
Ishbel told us that the MS Therapy Centre (Tayside) Ltd., is a totally autonomous self-help, self-funding local charity receiving no statutory funding whatsoever, and was the first such centre on Britain, opening 29 years ago.
As the level of demand increases, the Centre constantly strives to meet this, including increased running costs. The therapy provides major relief from symptoms such as fatigue, poor balance and mobility, incontinence and, in some cases, speech problems.
