Could you help as a palliative care volunteer?

Angus Macmillan Day Care Services are looking for qualified complementary therapists who would be willing to volunteer an hour or two of their time to help palliative patients.

Macmillan Day Care Services, which is part of Angus Specialist Palliative Care Services, is delivered at Stracathro, Arbroath and Forfar and offers specialist support and advice to patients with long-term conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, renal failure, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, end stage heart failure, as well as patients living with cancer.

Helen Dryden, Palliative Care Clinical Lead, Angus Community Health Partnership, said: “The Specialist Palliative Day Care Service is very fortunate to have a committed group of volunteers in each locality who regularly provide additional services, from volunteer drivers to people helping with general hospitality and assisting with craft activities.

“We also like to offer our patients access to a range of complementary therapies such as reiki, aromatherapy and massage which are provided by trained volunteer complementary therapists.

“Lately our number of therapists has reduced and we are appealing for qualified therapists to get in touch so that we can continue to provide this additional valuable service for our patients and carers.

“If you are a qualified complementary therapist in reflexology, beauty therapy, reiki, aromatherapy or hand massage and have an hour to spare once a week or fortnight we would love to hear from you.”
