Shortly after graduating, Hamish joined the family firm, where he has proved to be invaluable with his expertise in information technology and within his role of project engineer.
Hamish is the sixth generation family member to work in a company founded in 1868.
Hamish and his wife Lorna live locally.
Over the last few years, J & D Wilkie has seen considerable changes and has continued to evolve with the market demands.
“Over this time new products and business units have been developed,” explains a company spokesperson.
“Most recently the company invested in ballistic and stab protection technology and is now a leading supplier of these products throughout Europe,”
“This is sold under the brand name Jack Ellis body protection.
“Many of the news reporters reporting from Libya, Afghanistan and other war torn countries will be seen on camera wearing a Jack Ellis vest.
“Currently the company employs around 100 people in the Kirriemuir factory, producing technical textiles and related products, servicing the filtration, composites and many other markets requiring modern textile technology.
“J & D Wilkie have also invested in setting up manufacturing companies in China where a further 100 personnel are employed.
“These units manufacture engineered products and technical textiles.
“Both operations support the production in Kirriemuir and give the company a stronger overall global perspective in the market place.”
