Hospitality students at Angus College received a fascinating talk on Monday, from Michael Quinn; former head chef of the five-star Ritz Hotel London.
The world famous chef spoke with the students about his wealth of experience working in the food service industry as well as the pressures and temptations which came along with it.
During his time at the top Quinn developed a dependence on alcohol and watched as the work and life he had built disappeared. On the road to recovery, Quinn decided to set up the Ark Foundation, a charity which educates the hospitality industry’s students and employees as to the dangers of alcohol dependency and other drug misuse.
Quinn spoke with students about how to avoid peer pressure and to cope with the other pressures surrounding them in the fast passed kitchen environment. Representatives from the Ark foundation speak to thousands of students every year and aim to bring to light this serious problem within the hospitality industry.
