Kirriemiur Golden Wedding couple Gordon and Betty Glen recently asked friends and family to back their favourite charity instead of buying gifts for the occasion.

The couple have for the last five years been volunteer puppy walkers for Guide Dogs Scotland and, being staunch supporters of the organisation, raised £350 with the appeal from their anniversary celebration at Piperdam Leisure Resort.

Betty said: “We were delighted to be able to support Guide Dogs, and particularly those at the Forfar Training School, who help raise and train the puppies that go on to make such a difference as guide dogs.”

They were thanked for their generosity by Lisa Fairweather, fund-raiser at the Forfar centre.

She said: “Guide Dogs doesn’t receive any government funding for this service, which relies entirely on public generosity. The backing of people such as Mr and Mrs Glen is the generous support that allows us to make a difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people in our communities. We are very grateful for their kind donation.”

So far Gordon and Betty have been puppy walkers for five future guide dogs and are currently working with their sixth puppy, Iona.
