The first event to mark the 150th anniversary of Knox’s Church takes place next weekend and promises a treat for lovers of Burns.

‘The Spirit of Burns’ will take place in the church at 7.30pm on Sunday, January 17. Created by Angus writer Robbie Murray, the musical play uses some of Robert Burns’ beloved material, along with contemporary letters, to tell the story of his life.

Tickets for ‘The Spirit of Burns’ will be available for purchase in Knox’s Church hall tomorrow (Saturday) between 1 and 3pm.

Producing and narrating the play is music veteran James Hutcheson, along with the acting and vocal talents of Violet Thomson, Colette Dear, Jim Ramsay, Garry Mitchell, Rodger Brunton and accompanist Marina Kyle.

James said: “This performance of ‘The Spirit of Burns’ is dedicated to the memory of Janet Williamson , a dear friend and well known local singer who took part in the first performance of this piece in Carnoustie on January 25, 2015.

“It’s all the best known and best loved of Burns’ work. It will be a real treat for fans of Burns’ music and we hope that people will also learn a lot more about his life while they are here.”

As part of the 150th anniversary celebrations a full programme of events have been arranged, from special services of worship to quiz nights and exhibitions.
