LAST Saturday, a group of volunteers from Strathmore Christian Fellowship and Brechin Baptist Fellowship were at Tesco in Forfar to receive donations of food from shoppers.

Thanks to Tesco supermarket who hosted the collection, and the generosity of the people of Forfar, 496kg of food and £35.42 was donated to the Angus foodbank.

This initiative, which will help feed local people facing crisis, is managed by Strathmore Christian Fellowship of Kirriemuir, working in partnership with, and assisted by, volunteers from other Angus churches. It is part of the Trussell Trust foodbank network.

Brechin Baptist Church has just joined Angus foodbank and is now distributing food from their premises in Brechin as well.

Angus foodbank manager, Malcolm Brown, said: “We are delighted by the generosity of people, many of whom donated more than they took home themselves.”

Did you know that one in five UK mums regularly goes without food so that her children can eat or that some youngsters are so embarrassed about not being able to take a packed lunch to school that they play truant?

To obtain emergency food from the foodbank people will have to obtain a voucher from one of the organisations working with the foodbank.
