Gearing up for Glamis gathering

A showcase of Angus incorporating all the burghs is being organised to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at Glamis Castle.

The Glamis Gathering is being organised by Robina Addison and Norman Fiddes, on behalf of the Angus Provost and the Lord Lieutenant of Angus and takes place on Sunday, May 20.

The community event will showcase the many talents and raise the profile of organisations in the seven burghs in Angus, with community councils hosting their own marquees. There has been an overwhelming response from organisations wishing to be part of the event, which is free of charge.

There will be a parade of youths led by the massed pipe bands featuring 14 bands, and three different pipe bands will play on the castle roof. The Royal Marine Band will play in front of the castle and there is a full programme of dancing, performing arts, choirs, tai chi, gymnastics, to name but a few.

The day will end at 6 pm with a beating of the retreat. Look out for more details in the Dispatch and Herald in the coming weeks.
