Preparations are in full swing for what will be the fourth year of the popular Laura’s Fun Day, the main charitable fund-raising event organised by Forfar Academy each year.
It is held in memory of a former pupil, Laura Forbes, who passed away in February, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
It will be held as usual at Murton Nature Reserve, just outside Forfar on the Arbroath Road, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 10.
There are the usual range of fun events and activities for all the family including a raffle, home baking, face painting, ferret racing, wood chopping, assault course, trampolines, giant jenga, treasure hunt etc.
Specially commissioned mugs will also be on sale this year, and you will be able to try your hand at wood turning.
As a first for Laura’s Fun Day, there will be a guest appearance by one of Forfar’s brightest young bands, ‘Around 7’.
There is a 10K race starting at 10 a.m. following the course of Murton’s beautiful nature trail. There is a commemorative shield for the first man/woman to finish, with current holders Brian Bonnyman and Tracy Morgan hoping to retain their trophies; entry is £10, payable on the day.
Charities nominated to benefit this year are Calum’s Cabin, The Scottish Charity Air Ambulance, and The Brain Tumour Charity. Calum’s Cabin is a respite home on the isle of Bute, which caters for young people who are suffering from cancer, and their families. Laura and her family spent a week there while she battled her illness. The Brain Tumour Charity was chosen this year in memory of John Vannet, a Depute Head Teacher at Forfar Academy who died from cancer just after last year’s Laura’s Fun Day. A Facebook page has been set up where full details can be viewed.
